Berber silver fibulas, Sous, Morocco
Very old silver fibulas linked by a chain with a central egg-shaped tagemout decorated with enamel (some lost). Although both fibulas are very similar, they don’t totally match, so probably one of them was broken and another one was added, so this adornment could be still used.
This kind of fibulas was used in the Sous region in Southern Anti-Atlas. The holes were formed by smithing little rings which are all attached to each other. According to Marie-Rose Rabaté, such work was abandoned more than a century ago.
From the 19th century.
Length of the chain: 40 cm
Size of fibulas: 16 x 10 cm
Size of tagemout: 55 mm
Weight: 310 gr.
