Bugis pendant, Sulawesi (Indonesia)

Leaf-shaped pendand from the Bugis people of South Sulawesi, Indonesia, decorated with very regined filigree and granulation work. The roughtly heart-shaped form on these pendants has often been identified as syylised leaves of the breadfruit tree, said to originate in Malacca in the 14th century.

Gilded silver and glass.
